Jazz Miniatures quartet:
Giedrė Kilčiauskienė, who was well-known in Lithuania and abroad as the lead vocalist of hip and extremely popular electro-punk bands Milky Lasers and Empty for some years, has recently switched to acoustic jazz settings with Jazz Miniatures. A distinctive colour is given to the quartet’s music by Giedrė‘s unique voice and style, shaped and refined in the many genres the vocalist has performed in – a combination difficult to resist. Kilčiauskienė stands out because of her extraordinary ability to reveal all shades of jazz standards and to find the right colours in her creative palette for every composition. Her performance is very subtle, soft, with different accents and definitely very improvisational.
Together with Giedrė, the other pivotal member of the quartet is her creative partner, the pianist, keyboard player and composer of the younger generation Andrej Polevikov. An experienced jazz pianist Andrej Polevikov plays different music styles: from traditional jazz to modern academic music. Constantly performing with various Lithuanian and foreign musicians he participates in various international competitions and festivals. In 2007, he became a laureate in the International Piano Competition “Jazz Improvisation” (Vilnius, Lithuania). Being an energetic seeker of interesting ideas, Andrej constantly generates new and improves already developed programs. At present, he focuses mainly on the work with his quartet which consists of young and talented Lithuanian jazz musicians. Having a unique approach to the music style they perform, the musicians decided that their ideas are worth to be presented to the jazz festival audience.
An influential and very distinctive figure among young Lithuanian jazz musicians, double bassist Vytis Nivinskas demonstrates mature musical thinking, rich and expressive sound, vivid and active articulation, flexible and tuneful melodic lines.
The drummer Darius Rudis, one of the most famous, skilful and flexible jazzman, sensitive accompanist and versatile musician is at home in various styles from flamenco and Latin to modern jazz and fusion. A charismatic, versatile virtuoso working with ensembles is one of the busiest Lithuanian jazz drummers, playing with many of the foremost Lithuanian jazz musicians, pop performers, performing abroad a lot.
